Protect your deck, fence, and outdoor wood from sun and moisture with precision exterior staining services from HQ Painting
Deck Staining & Restaining
The sun and moisture can degrade your deck over time if it’s not properly stained. So we power wash and prep the decking based on the condition it’s in, and then apply the right stain to protect it from the weather.
Fence Staining & Restaining
A properly stained fence can last a lot longer than one that’s unprotected and exposed to the elements. We’ll work with any condition of fencing, whether it means a fresh coat of stain over the existing stain, or staining brand new fencing.
Pergola Staining
Outdoor structures like pergolas often take a lot more sun exposure than anything else in your backyard. We can stain any size and shape of pergola to protect the wood and bring out its natural beauty.
Deck Railing & Baluster Staining
We’ll stain wooden deck railings, posts and banisters to protect them from weather and years of use.
Door Staining
Think about all the sun exposure your home’s doors get over time. We can stain and re-stain wooden front doors and garage doors to protect them, and give them a brand new look.
We’re thrilled to be a top rated business on HomeAdvisor, a Top Pro company on Thumbtack, and winner of the Best of SLC award for Best Painter. Not only are we an award winning outdoor staining company, but we’re licensed, bonded and insured, so you know our work comes with real accountability.
Every deck, fence and door we stain gets the right preparation and staining process, whether it’s a small section of a fence, or a restoration of a large deck.
We promise to give you an accurate start date and timeline, and we’ll stick to a schedule.
Everything in the estimate covers what you pay at the end.
Every staining project we complete comes with a 2-year warranty, so if something’s not right, we’ll make it right.
We’ll walk your property, look at the condition of your deck, fence, or pergola, and give you a clear quote on the spot. No pressure, no pushy follow-up calls.
Every surface is different, so we prep based on what your wood actually needs. We’ll power wash exterior surfaces (except doors) and then allow a full day to dry. If the home was built before 1978, we’ll use lead-safe work practices. Then we prep the project area by protecting nearby surfaces including the foundation, brick, cement and windows. Before applying the stain we’ll lightly sand any rough areas, remove all sanding dust and then apply two coats of stain followed by a sealant.
Before we leave, we walk the project with you to check the work against what you expected. If something’s not right, we fix it before we call the job done.

Can you stain furniture?
No we don’t stain furniture like chairs or patio tables. We stain structures like pergolas, decks, fences, railings, and doors.
How often should I restain my deck or fence?
Restaining depends on a few factors like sun exposure and moisture. Horizontal surfaces like decks and railing tops need to be stained more often than vertical surfaces like fence panels, since they can take more direct exposure to weather.
Do you pressure wash before staining?
Yes, we pressure wash decks and fences to clean the surface before we stain. If we’re staining new wood, there’s no need to pressure wash since we don’t want to introduce water to wood that’s unprotected.
What kind of stain do you use?
We like to use Sherwin-Williams stains, and we can walk through all the options with you during your estimate.
How soon can I use my deck or walk near my fence after staining?
This depends on the stain we use and the weather conditions during the application, so we’ll let you know the specific timeline during your estimate.
